Project Lead nominated for Best Contribution at LawWorks & Attorney General's Student Pro Bono Awards 2025

The Aberdeen Law Project is delighted to announce that one of our student volunteers, Megan McLennan, has been shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Best contribution by an individual student’ category at the LawWorks & Attorney General's Student Pro Bono Awards 2025.

The LawWorks & Attorney General Student Pro Bono Awards ‘celebrate the best pro bono activities undertaken by law students and law schools and the positive impact on those assisted’.

Megan McLennan's contributions through pro bono work have been widely recognized. Megan joined The Aberdeen Law Project (“ALP”) in 2022, focusing on educating and spreading awareness about health, wellbeing, and addiction within North East Scotland. Megan’s drive and passion to reduce the access to justice problem has generated an abundance of assistance to those who need it most, during her 3 years in the Project. This includes, assisting over 100 school pupils, creating social media campaigns reaching individuals internationally, and introducing campaigns to help university students.

Megan’s leadership, innovative thinking, and broad approach to raising awareness on critical health issues has made a significant impact on both ALP and the wider community. Megan’s desire to increase access to justice, and her active engagement within the community to spread awareness on these issues makes her a standout finalist and role mode, resulting from the help she, and her Project, provide to those who may not have received the same support without theircontributions.

The winners will be announced on Wednesday 23rd April 2025 at the Cholmondeley Rooms and Terrace, House of Lords.

Anna Robertson, Chair of the Board said: “Megan is a wonderful example of what law students can contribute to society. We are delighted she has been shortlisted.

Jonathan Blackwood and Emma Naylor, co-Student Directors said: “We are so pleased to hear that Megan has been shortlisted for Best Contribution. Her work and passion for the Aberdeen Law Project and reducing the access to justice problem this past year has been exemplary. We wish you all the luck at the awards!

Cameron Blair, Assistant Director said: “Megan has shown such a great commitment to reducing the access to justice problem within the community. Not only has Megan actively introduced new Initiatives to prevent the widespread issue of health and addiction within the community, but she has found innovative approaches to make the work of her Project more widespread, including producing public campaigns. Megan is very passionate about these contemporary issues and helping to combat the problem in modern society.”

Aberdeen Law Project nominated for LexisNexis Legal Awards 2025

The new University Pro Bono Award celebrates universities which ‘have made a significant impact through their legal pro bono programmes’. Firstly, our 13 innovative community outreach projects educate school pupils on legal issues and empower individuals within the community. Secondly, our representation team works tirelessly to secure justice for those most in need, particularly in housing and employment matters.

Our efforts in the North East of Scotland are a testament to the dedication and engagement of our students. Their commitment not only drives meaningful change in the local community but also improves access to justice for all.
